Hyderabad Happies: Bhonalu & Teen Maar

‘Nuvvu Pedda Pulinekkinaavammo Gandipeta Gandi Mysammo…’ or ‘Maayadaari Mysammo Mysammaa…’ everywhere in twin cities of Hyderabad & Secunderabad,  you see people dancing to the tunes with ‘Teen Maar’ steps and enjoying ‘Bhonalu’ celebrations, the traditional Telangana festival which will be held every year during Ashada Maasam.

Bhonalu’ celebrations began from first Sunday of Ashadam at Sri Jagadamba Temple in Golconda Fort followed by next Sunday at Sri Ujjaini Mahankali Temple in Secunderabad and next at Matheshwari Temple at Lal Darwaj. Today is the last ‘Bhonam’ at Lal Darwaj, in parallel to many areas of Secunderabad. Celebration is exclusively meant to please Mahankali Amma (The Mother Goddess) to keep Hyderabad and Secunderabad safe and prosperous.

As today is last ‘Bhonam,’ many of the Political leaders were attending the temples to have darshan of Amma. YS Jaganmohan Reddy was seen performing special puja at Lal Darwaj temple followed by KCR and Vijayashanthi bringing the special Bhonam for goddess. Speaking from Lal Dharwaj, KCR said, ‘we will celebrate the next ‘Bhonalu’ in our own state of Telangana. Let us pray Mahankali to bless us with good life and prosperity.’
