Second Train Accident in last 60 days for Bengalis. All it happened near the Jharkhand border at around 2AM today, the Uttar Banga Express coming in from New Cooch Bihar to Sealdah rammed a stationary Bhagalpur – Ranchi bound Vananchal Express at Sainthia station in Virbhum district, 191 kms from Howrah, Kolkata.

Already fifty people were declared dead while 170 were shifted to near by hospitals. Casualties are high in two general second class bogies of the Vananchal Express. So severe was the impact that the roof of a bogey had been detached in the collision and was thrown up on an overbridge.

Driver of Uttar Banga Express, M C Dey, assistant driver N K Mandal and guard of the Vananchal Express, A Mukherjee died in the accident.
 
Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee was in Delhi has rushed to the spot. Two trains travelling on the same line gives a clear indication that there was miscommunication between the stations and respective control departments..
