 The Civil supply and Revenue officials on Saturday conducted surprise checks on wholesale pulses traders who hoarded heavy stocks to create artificial shortage, which is leading to rising of prices.

Under the leadership of Revenue Divisional Officer, a team of ten officials, who include mandal supply officers, civil supply assistants raided Aditya Traders in Ashwarao Peta in Khammam district and seized Rs 7 lakh worth foodgrains.

When traders started opening their shops, immediately the officials raided the shop and verified their stocks and asked them to show their godowns. Shocked with the sudden development some of the wholesalers approached Chamber of Commerce representatives over phone and told them that officials are ‘harassing’ them.

Not succumbing to their pressures the raids continued for more than three hours. The RDO raided Aditya Traders, where there were unaccounted stocks in heavy quantity. The seized the records and booked a case. In another raid conducted at Kanigiri, the officials seized pulses worth Rs 30 lakh pulses from a mill.

The Revenue officials seized 15 tons of dal worth Rs 10 lakh and 65 tons of Bengal gram worth Rs 20 lakh from Kanigiri Srinivas Mill where they stored pulses illegally in the mill.
