Making a statement in the House, the Minister said the government would convene an all-party meeting to discuss the problems of red jowar farmers.

The Telugu Desam Party women MLAs raised this issue demanding to rescue farmers of red jowar. Armoor MLA lambasted the government for failing to protect the interest of poor farmers. "Though the jowar farmers are facing hardships, the government and the district administration have turned a blind eye towards them," the MLA said.

"Many jowar ryots are living in pitiable conditions but the officials have no sympathy for them," the TDP MLAs alleged.

It was on June 16 last year that four ryots were injured during the police firing and property worth Rs 2 crore was damaged when the agitation turned violent.

The women MLAs staged a dharna in front of Speaker’s podium demanding to lift false cases foisted against farmers and sought action on police responsible for firing on ryots.
