Vijayawada,Dec 18: The bandh called in protest against the arrest of fasting Telugu Desam Member of Legislative Assembly,Devineni Umamaheswara Rao and others affected normal life in Vijaywada on Friday.Shops and other business establishments, educational institutions,banks and several government offices remained shut since morning. The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation had already announced suspension of its services but train services remained unaffected.The bandh was called in protest against the arrest of MLA Umamaheswara Rao and TDP state secretary Bonda Umamaheswara Rao.

They were forcibly shifted to the Vijayawada Government General Hospital where they are continuing their fast.Senior TDP leader K Yerrannaidu, who visited the hospital,said the state government was adopting double standards. The government has appointed a team of doctors to treat Telangana Rashtra Samithi leader K Chandrasekhar Rao while he was on fast and briefed the media every two hours about his health. When it comes to leaders from coastal Andhra,the government is just shifting them to the hospital in the dead of the night."
