New Delhi, July 31 :-

  Andhra Pradesh Backward Classes Sankshema Sangham president R Krishnaiah on Friday appealed All India Congress Committee President Ms Sonia Gandhi to set up a separate Ministry for Backward Classes Welfare in the Union Cabinet.

Talking to media persons after submitting a memorandum to Sonia Gandhi, he said the AICC leader has responded favorably to the appeal.

He said that Sonia promised to suggest this decision to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.

AP State Backward Classes Welfare Association, had been striving for the last 35 years ‘sincerely’ taking up agitations for the benefit of BCs.

The association had also launched struggles demanding 50 per cent quota for BCs, quota in promotions for employees, taking up the cause of education and employment.

Mr. Krishnaiah sought introduction of a bill for provision of 33 per cent reservation to BCs in legislatures.
