7,700 marriages performed under Kalyanamasthu

Hyderabad, Oct 28: Seven thousand seven hundred Hindu marriages were performed in the fifth phase of ‘Kalyanamasthu’ programme. Under ‘Kalyanamasthu’ (free mass marriages) being conducted by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Dharma Prachara Parishad in collaboration with the state government across the state, 7700 marriages were performed between 9.20 am and 9.32 am in Dhanista nakshatram in Vrischika lagnam.
Chief Minister K Rosaiah inaugurated the programme at Lalithakalathoranum in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad on Wednesday and Governor N D Tiwari blessed the newly wedded couple.

Minister for Home Smt Sabitha Indra Reddy, Minister for Roads and Buildings Galla Aruna Kumari, Minister for Endowments, Stamps and Registration Gade Venkata Reddy, several MLAs and MLCs attended the programme and blessed the newly wedded couple.The TTD presented a gold ‘mangalasutram’ and ‘mettelu’ and new clothes to the bride and bridegroom, besides hosting lunch for 60 persons on behalf of each couple.Six members belonging to the bride and bridegroom party would be provided free darshan at Venkateswara temple at Tirumala.Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister K Rosaiah called upon public representatives and mandal-level officials to propagate the programme and motivate prospective couples.
