Court rejects Sirish's anticipatory bail plea

The VIII Additional Metropolitan Sessions Court, Nampally, on Thursday refused to grant anticipatory bail to Sirish Bharadwaj, son-in-law of actor-politician K Chiranjeevi, who is accused in a dowry harassment case.

The Court, after hearing the anticipatory bail petitions file by Sirish and his mother Suryamangala rejected the former’s bail petition. However, Suryamangala, the co-accused in the harassment case was granted anticipatory bail, albeit with certain conditions.

Advocate CVL Narasimha Rao filed bail petition on behalf of Sirish and his mother.

According to police, Sirish and his mother Suryamangala, co-accused in the harassment case (crime number 82/2011 of CCS women PS) filed an anticipatory bail petition before the Metropolitan Sessions Judge at Nampally Criminal Courts Complex last Thursday. 

After examining the petition (694/2011), the Court forwarded it to VIII Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge. 

The alleged harassment came to light after Mr Chiranjeevi’s daughter Srija alleged that Sirish Bharadwaj and his mother have been exploiting and ill-treating her for some time. She also claimed in her complaint that her in-laws had demanded Rs 50 lakh as dowry from her.

Earlier, the two had eloped and married in October 2007. Mr Chiranjeevi was against the match as he belongs to the Kapu caste while Bharadwaj is a Brahmin.
