Ongole, Sept 21:

 The State government on Monday suspended six policemen of Two Town Police station of Ongole limits following the custodial death of a suspect in a trafficking of girls case Vijaya Jyothi the previous day.  The suspended policemen were – Two Town Inspector, Hussain, three constables—head constable Narayana, constables Rajayaiah, Sambhashivarao and two home guards. According to the reports, Superintendent of Police Navin Chand, ordered judicial probe on Monday following the directions from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on the custodial death of Vijaya Jyothi.Additional Superintendent of Police will conduct the probe and submit his report to the government. SP Navin Chand said the investigation will also focus on the role of Circle Inspector and Deputy Superintendent of Police in the case.

Jyothi was arrested on Friday in Visakhapatnam on the charges of trafficking girls following a complaint lodged with the police by one Venkateshwara Rao. Later she was shifted to Ongole for investigation on Sunday. In the cell she attempted to commit suicide by hanging herself. Following this, the police shifted her to the hospital. But the doctors declared her brought dead. Jyothi relatives alleged that she had committed suicide by hanging herself in the lock up after the police torture.
