Madannapet Circle Inspector Ch S Rangaswamy, who was accused in exploiting the minor daughter of a constable and has been on the run for the past few weeks, on Thursday surrendered before the Judge of LB Nagar Court in the city.

According to sources, the Court remanded him to police custody for 14 days. Following this, he was shifted to Cherlapalli jail.

Talking to media persons on Court premises, the Inspector said that he had not committed any crime and the parents of the girl are attempting to implicate him in false cases.

The 38-year-old Rangaswamy, who has a wife and two children, has been accused of wooing the minor girl by picking her up and driving around the city after college hours. He also allegedly visited her at the house on the sly.

According to sources, police have clear evidence that Rangaswamy tied a ‘taali’ in the car to make her his ‘wife’ in July. The officials also recovered a ‘mangalsutra’ from the victim’s room.

Earlier, the Ranga Reddy Additional District Judge rejected the Circle Inspector’s anticipatory bail petition.

Curiously, Rangaswamy’s lawyer argued before the Sessions Court that his client had sex with the minor girl with her consent.

Public Prosecutor (PP) P Ravindar Reddy objected to this consent theory being put forward by the CI because it is common knowledge for any responsible police officer that sex with minor even under the guise of consent is unacceptable to law and it precisely falls under the category of rape.

The PP further told the court that this errant Circle Inspector was claiming to have married the 16-year-old girl despite the fact he is already married and has two children.

The PP contended “The CI drove the victim to a lonely place in a car and raped her in the car itself” and termed the inspector behavior as `highly objectionable’.

Brushing aside the arguments of the counsel for Rangaswamy, Additional Metropolitan Session’s Judge Ramana dismissed the anticipatory bail plea.
