Huge Shock! Mamatha Defeats

This is an ultimate shocker in the 5-state general poll battle. The Trinamool Congress chief and former CM of West Bengal Mamatha Banerjee has been defeated by the BJP contestant Suvendu Adhikari.

Mamatha Banerjee contested from Nandigram constituency which is considered the rampart of the party as the party has been winning since 2009. Suvendu Adhikari, who once happened to be one of the top leaders of the TMC, joined the BJP ahead of the general polls.

Suvendu Adhikari, who had differences with Mamatha, contested against her in Nandigram. Ever since the counting kickstarted on Sunday, nail-biting moments were witnessed with each round. Finally, the Election Commission declared the victory of Suvendu Adhikari officially and the majority of his is 1737 votes.

Though the TMC recorded a huge victory in the general polls, the party chief's defeat, certainly, demoralized the spirit of the party's activists.

Although Mamatha would face no obstacles for being elected as the CM, she needs to contest either as an MLA or an MP from any constituency within six months and should register a victory.
