Baahubali has given wings and confidence for so many filmmakers across the country to mount epics on a huge scale. Suryaputra Mahavir Karna, directed by R S Vimal, was one among the many pan Indian projects to have been greenlit a couple of years ago. Though the film has been announced a long time ago and marks actor Vikram’s entry into the mythological genre, it hasn’t made much progress later. Finally, there’s some hope.

While Vikram is awaiting the release of Cobra and has been shooting for Mani Ratnam’s film Ponniyin Selvan, the producers of Suryaputra Mahavir Karna (Pooja Films) made an important announcement today as they released the film’s logo. The project is slated to be made on a Rs 300 crore budget in five languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. Popular writer, poet Kumar Vishwas has been roped in to write the Hindi dialogues.

From the look of it, Suryaputra Mahavir Karna promises to be grandeur personified and the promo reflects the immense effort that has gone into the film’s visual detailing. Karna is one of the most intriguing characters in the Mahabharatha where several curses bring about his downfall. Two of the biggest hits of yesteryear stars, NTR and Sivaji Ganesan, in Telugu and Tamil cinema – Daana Veera Soora Karna and Karnan – are based on the same character. This is a solid film for Vikram to prove his acting potential to crowds on a massive scale again.
