Movie lovers and especially fans are of the opinion that Chiranjeevi is a mass hero and he can do justice only for mass and commercial entertainers. However, Chiranjeevi's true to his style proved his mettle by doing unconventional films.

He did Swayamkrushi under K Vishwanath's direction and he lived in the role of cobbler Sambayya. The film got a rare honor of getting premiered at the International Film Festival of India, the Asia Pacific Film Festival, and the Moscow International Film Festival.

Chiranjeevi then teamed up with K Balachander to star in Rudhraveena. He played a powerful role in fighting against the caste differences and also liquor abolition. The film received three National Film Awards: Best Feature Film on National Integration, Best Music Direction, and Best Male Playback Singer. It also won four Nandi Awards, including a Special Jury Award for Chiranjeevi.

He once again did a surprising role in Challenge under the direction of Kodanda Rami Reddy. He played the emotional role of a jobless youngster Gandhi who fought against the affluent lot.

Chiranjeevi did Chantabbai with Jandhyala and much to the surprise of all he did a full-length comical role. He with his performance endeared himself to all sections with his hilarious performance.

Chiranjeevi teamed up with Kodanda Rami Reddy for Vijetha. He played an emotional role of a wannabe football player, who would like to represent his country, donates one of his kidneys to save a rich man's heir for the sake of his younger sister's marriage garnered applause from all corners.

Chiru will next be seen in Acharya under the direction of Koratala Siva.
