In the olden era, Sr NTR used to be the father figure and driving force behind Tollywood. Everyone used to look up to him to resolve any problems and differences. Later Dasari Narayana Rao filled in the role. But after the demise of Dasari, the position is vacant and the vacuum is still felt in the film circles as everyone started missing him.
Many of the burning problems in the industry remained unresolved. Now it seems Megastar Chiranjeevi who returned back to silver screen silently quitting politics after the Congress party's crushing defeat is eyeing the post. His behavior and actions in the recent past too prove this assumption.
When Tollywood was in Madras, Kollywood, Sandalwood, Mollywood too co-existed. However, ANR worked hard and ensured Tollywood shifted to Hyderabad and for that he himself shifted to Hyderabad. But none in the industry supported him as almost all the stars used to reside in Madras and flew down to Hyderabad only for shootings. Later Mollywood and Sandalwood shifted their bases in their own states.
When Tollywood was in Chennai, MGR and NTR used to be the father figures for Kollywood and Tollywood and resolved many differences. After NTR entered politics, many to gain supremacy in Tollywood propped up Superstar Krishna and the Congress party covertly supported him. There used to be tough competition in the various associations' elections but Krishna failed to address the problems of the workers.
At that time, Dasari Narayana Rao stood by the side of the workers and acted as a bridge between workers and the producers resolving many issues. The then AP CM Marri Chenna Reddy played a key role in Tollywood shifting to Hyderabad. When NTR came to power, he introduced a slab system which resulted in the increase of top stars' remuneration drastically. This resulted in young stars show interest in shooting in Hyderabad and this forced even top stars to shift their base to Hyderabad.
This resulted in differences between Madras Cine Workers and Hyderabad Cine Workers. Producers used to prefer workers from Madras and during that time Kota Srinivasa Rao sat on fast in support of Hyderabad Cine Workers. Dasari took initiative and solved many of the problems. His death left a huge vacuum and inside talk is Chiranjeevi is making moves to fill in the vacuum.
Film circles are looking for the real father figure who can resolve the workers' problems. The question is will Chiranjeevi take up the responsibility?
