Tollywood Failed Miserably In 2019

Tollywood came with a record number of films at a whopping number 184. However the industry failed miserably scoring only 22 hits out of 184. This means the success rate is just around 10% and more than 50% films failed to get back the investments. For few small films, getting released itself became a great achievement. Even then producers did not think twice in making big budget films. The expansion into Bollywood market, digital rights gave some solace to the producers. However, overall the industry fate did not change.

January-1/10

The sankranti season witnessed around ten films with a business of Rs 250crs. However, only one film turned out to be a hit. Except F2 which entered into Rs 100crs club, others like Kathanayakudu, Vinaya Vidheya Rama, Mister Majnu bombed at the box office.

February-1/14

February too did not bring any solace to the industry. A business of Rs 30crs had been done but the flops streak continued. Only Yatra to some extent appealed to the viewers. Mahanayakudu, Rahasyam, Akkadokaduntadu, Unmadi ,Amavasya, Mithai left without any buzz. The month left producers in huge losses and theatres were left empty.

March-1/24

March witnessed flurry of films doing a business of Rs 50crs. A record 24 films released this month but all except 118 disappointed. 118 got good collections and adult film Cheekati Gadilo Chitakkottudu made viewers throng theatres to some extent. Lakshmi’s NTR, Suryakantam failed to attract viewers.

April-3/10

Summer is the key season after Sankranti. 10 films released during summer with a business of Rs 80crs. It gave some solace to the producers. Majili, Chitralahari, Jersey attracted viewers and critics and went on to show their power at the box office giving the much needed tonic to the industry.

May-1/13

Though April witnessed three hits not of them set the box office collections ringing. Maharshi fulfilled that at the box office. The film entered into Rs 100crs club. Faluknuma Das though did well at some centers, it disappeared quickly. Seetha disappointed in a big and same is the case with ABCD. This month witnessed a business of Rs 150 crs.

June- 2/16

16 films released in June with a business of Rs 70crs. Only two films crossed the success mark. Seven, Hippie, Vishwamitra, Voter and many more flopped at the box office. Mallesham was hailed as a good attempt. Agent Sai Srinivas Atreya and Brochevarevarura turned out to be surprise hits. Kalki, Special, Prema Janta, Vajra Kavacha Dhara and others failed miserably.

July 3/13

July witnessed some good successes. 3 of the 13 films turned out to be hits as the films did a business of Rs 150crs. Oh Baby, iSmart Shankar became super hits. Dear Comrade failed to attract, wherein Ninu Veedani Needanu Nene thrilled viewers.

August-3/17

17 films released in August with a business of Rs 450crs. Saaho failed to live up to the expectations. Rakshasudu and Yevaru thrilled movie lovers. Kobbarimatta entertained viewers. Kousalya Krishnamurthy turned out to be a flop. Ranarangam and Guna 369 failed while Manmadhudu 2 turned out to be a disaster.

September-1/16

16 films released in September with a business of Rs 70crs. Gaddalakonda Ganesh turned out to be a hit. Gang Leader failed and so too other films which left without a trace at the box office.

October-1/12

12 films released in October with a business of Rs 320crs. Sye Raa got good collections living up to the hype in two Telugu states. However it failed miserably in other languages. Chanakya, Rajugari Gadhi 3, RDX Love, Operation Gold Fish and others failed to make an impact at the box office.

November-1/21

November which is known as unseason witnessed more than 21 films with a business of Rs 50crs. Many small films came but all of them like Aviri, Meeku Matrame Chepta, Tippara Meesam, Tenali Ramakrishna BA BL, George Reddy, Rajavaru Ranigaru, Ragala 24 Gantalu failed miserably. Only Arjun Suravaram attracted movie lovers.

December-4/18

18 films released with a business of Rs 100crs. Venky Mama, Prati Roju Pandaage got good collections while Ruler, Iddarilokam Okate, 90ML, Mismatch, Ammarajyamlo Kadapa Biddalu, Bhagyanagaramlo Gammatthu, bombed at the box office. Mathu Vadalara is turning out to be a decent hit.
