Mutyalaya Subbaiah who directed many super hit films revealed how angry producer MS Reddy crushed his film Kalikaalam and ensured that it does not get any award.

He said, "In 1991, three of my films Erra Mandaram, Mamagaru, Kalikaalam released. All the three turned out to be super hits. Since Kalikaalam and Erramandaram completed censor in 1990, we sent these two films for Nandi award in 1990 and Mamagaru for Nandi award in 1991.

Since the topic came, I should tell you one thing. There was a cultural organization Kalasagar in Chennai. The awards given by the organization had immense value. Producer MS Reddy headed the organization. He gave best director award to me for Kalikaalam and best supporting actress award to Jayasudha for Kalikaalam. However Jayasudha rejected the award saying it was an insult to her as she played the lead role in the film and if given she should be honored with best actress award.

This angered MS Reddy who thought how dare Jayasudha was to oppose his decision. Though he did not speak about it, he kept it in his mind. He was appointed the Chairman of 1990 Nandi Awards committee. Angry with Jayasudha, he sidelined Kalikaalam and ensured that it does not get even a single award. His anger crushed our film. However he gave best film and best actor award for my film Erra Mandaram. But Kalikaalam gave immense satisfaction for me professionally."
