Mahanati, Why Getting So Late?

A biopic on legendary actress Savithri was announced long back and Nag Ashwin is confirmed as director. Post the decent success and critical acclaim for his first outing ‘Yevade Subramanyam,’ there was too much of talking on ‘Mahanati’ and South Indian cinema lovers got enough excited. 

But, pre production for ‘Mahanati’ is seemingly eating too much of time. Nag Ashwin and team went for a thorough research on every minute detailing. There are no substantial references like creating the aesthetic mood of forgotten and clueless 1950-60s era. Technically, ‘Mahanati’ is a director’s vision. Onto the scripting front, Nag Ashwin is personally catching up with Savithri’s family members, friends and collecting, reading the old interviews.

‘I want to keep the film close to reality balancing the commercial depth in Savithri’s life as a storyline. She has been the pinnacle of women power in a generation when males dominated glamour industry. I am collecting the smallest of incidents happened in her life. Many of us don’t even know that she was very generous, offered numerous secret donations and her charity works never came to light. There are many families in and outside AP, TS and TN happily living after receiving a timely favor from Savithri garu. 

Such hidden shades in Savithri’s character will be focused in ‘Mahanati’ so as to make this honest attempt, complete and full. We are recreating this celebration of Savithri’s life,’ Nag Ashwin responds on delays behind commencement of production.
