Rumors spread fast in Tollywood, and the latest one about the MS Subbulakshmi biopic had fans confused. Word was that Rukmini Vasanth had replaced Sai Pallavi as the legendary Carnatic singer in Gautham Tinnanuri’s much-awaited film. But that’s not true. The makers have clearly denied it. When Gulte reached out, the team confirmed Sai Pallavi is still on board as MS Subbulakshmi, and there’s been no change in casting. The delay in shooting sparked the speculation, not a switch in heroines.
The reason behind delay is Sai Pallavi packed schedule. She’s shooting for Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana franchise and also has a project with Mani Ratnam lined up. Because of those commitments, the biopic’s shoot got pushed. The team now plans to start rolling in October 2026 and wants to finish in one smooth schedule. Sai Pallavi is the perfect choice because of her grace and natural acting.
Some even shared old clips of her dancing to classical songs, saying she can do justice to MS Subbalakshmi's persona. Meanwhile, Rukmini Vasanth is definitely the talk of the town right now with big films in Kannada and Telugu, which is probably why her name got dragged into the rumor mill.
This biopic is a big deal. Directed by Jersey fame Gautham Tinnanuri, with music by Rockstar Anirudh and produced by Bunny Vas, it aims to celebrate the life, struggles, and music of Bharat Ratna MS Subbulakshmi. Pre-production is already in full swing, and Sai Pallavi is said to be deep in prep to capture the singer’s depth and classical aura. The film wants to take audiences through MS Amma’s journey from her early days to becoming a global icon of Carnatic music.
Sai Pallavi is still playing MS Subbulakshmi. The Rukmini Vasanth talk is just a rumor. With Gautham Tinnanuri’s direction, Anirudh’s music, and Sai Pallavi’s performance, expectations are sky-high. Shoot starts October 2026, and fans can’t wait for the official announcements and first look.
