Karuppu Team Says Sorry Over Ilaiyaraaja Dialogue Row

Dream Warrior Pictures, the makers of Suriya’s new film Karuppu, have said sorry for using music legend Ilaiyaraaja’s name in a funny dialogue. The team said they respect and admire Ilaiyaraaja for his great work in Indian cinema and music. They made it clear that they had no plan to hurt or disrespect him, his work, or his rights. The dialogue was only part of a satire and was not meant as a personal remark against the maestro.
The producers also said they understand the dialogue caused concern and upset Ilaiyaraaja. To show their respect, they have decided to remove or change the part in future prints and all later versions of the film. The team added that they value his feelings and continue to hold him in the highest respect. The line in question was seen as a light dig at Ilaiyaraaja’s recent copyright issues over his songs and royalty rights.
Meanwhile, Karuppu is doing very well in theatres. The RJ Balaji directorial released on Friday and has already joined the 150 crore club at the worldwide box office. Crowds are still coming to watch the film in large numbers. Karuppu brings back the popular pair of Suriya and Trisha after their 2005 film Aaru.
The movie also stars Yogi Babu, Indrans, Sshivada, Swasika, Natty, Supreeth Reddy, and Anagha Maya Ravi, with RJ Balaji playing an important role too. The film is produced by Dream Warrior Pictures and is getting good talk for its mix of satire, action, and strong performances.
