The Kerala Story 2 hit theaters amidst protests and heavy security in Kerala, but poor bookings and social backlash led to widespread show cancellations. The film's opening day witnessed a lukewarm response at major centers, with several theaters canceling initial shows due to a lack of audience.

The controversy surrounding the film has been fueled by its trailer, which many perceive as an insult to the state of Kerala. The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has been at the forefront of protests, declaring that they would block the film's screening. As a result, police protection has been sought for theaters in the Malabar region.

Theater owners are divided on the issue, with some citing poor occupancy and social harmony as reasons for canceling shows, while others believe that the film should be screened as it has been legally cleared by the Censor Board. Linto Davis, owner of Vanitha-Vineetha theater complex, stated that he decided not to screen the film to avoid inciting protest or hurting public sentiment. In contrast, Suresh Shenoy, owner of Shenoys Theater, expressed confidence that screenings could proceed peacefully.

The film's producer, Vipul Amrutlal Shah, has clarified that The Kerala Story 2 does not target the state of Kerala or its people, and is instead a reflection of truth. The film follows the lives of three young women who fall into deceptive marriages and face alleged forced religious conversions. As the situation unfolds, many are waiting to see how the film will be received in the coming days.
