Tension prevailed at the Suryarao Pet  Police station here on Thursday,  following the arrest of Chalasani Venkateswara Rao, a leader of Telugu Desam Party.

Chalasani was arrested on Wednesday night in connection with a civil case  registered against him a month ago. The case pertains to a property dispute.

Devineni Uma and a few other MLAs along with other Tdp activists reached  the Police Station and showed their resentment against the arrest of Chalasani Venkateswara Rao.

The Tdp supporters raised slogans  against the Government and alleged that  Chalasani was arrested at the behest of   Minister Parthasarathi.

Sitaramanjaneyulu, the Commissioner of Police, Vijayawada talking to reporters said there was no political involvement  in his arrest.  Chalasani  was sending  threatening calls to a doctor over the property  dispute,  the senior  cop added.  

Chalasani is a close assoicate of Rajya Sabha MP Nandamuri Harikrishna.  In  fact, he lost in the last elections as Tdp candidate from Vuyyuru.
