Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh will lay the foundation stone for BHEL-NTPC power plant equipment manufacturing unit at Mannavaram (YSR Puram) in July.

 According to the Prime Minister Office sources, Dr Singh has agreed to visit the state on July 9 and 10.

According to his schedule, the prime Minister will directly come to Tirupati from New Delhi on July 9 and offer prayers at the temple of Lord Venkateswara.

On July 10, the Prime Minister will lay foundation stone for power plant equipment manufacturing unit to be constructed at a cost of Rs 6,000 crore near Srikalahashi in Chittoor district.

Later, the PM will lay foundation stone for expansion of Tirupati airport into international standards.

The Prime Minister was originally scheduled to lay the foundation-stone for the project on September 6 last  but it was put off following the death of then Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

The State government had allotted 750 acres at Mannavaram for the project at a nominal price of Rs 100 per acre as it would provide direct employment to 6,000 besides indirect employment to over 25,000 people.
