The Chief Minister, Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, on Thursday reviewed the latest situation arising out of the heavy rains in the city and the relief measures taken up with the Collector and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials.

The Chief Minister enquired from the GHMC officials and Collector the extent of damage due to heavy rains that has lashed in the city.

He asked them to closely monitor the situation round-the-clock and be alert to provide relief measures wherever needed. He also directed the officials to rehabilitate people from the low lying areas, particularly the women, children and old age people.

He told the Collector to coordinate with all departments to prevent any major damages or human losses. He wanted relief teams to be kept ready to rush them to the affected areas whenever and wherever needed.

The Chief Minister told the officials to send teams to the water-logged areas to drain out the water and prevent any damages and breaches. He wanted the people to be evacuated from the low lying areas as a precautionary measure without waiting for the area to be flooded. The officials assured the Chief Minister that the situation is under control.

HEAVY RAINS LASH CITY

Heavy rains that lashed the state capital threw the traffic out of gear while inundating several low-lying areas today.

The rain water entered in houses in several low lying areas in Kothapet, Talabkatta, Chaitanyapuri, Parsigutta and other localities.

The vehicular traffic on main roads came to a standstill at Nampally, Khairtabad, Lakdi-ka-Pool, L B Nagar, Chanderghat, Dilsukhnagar, Ameerpet, Punjagutta and Abids.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation emergency cell received 50 distress calls from various localities while fire brigade office received a call from Malakpet where rains water entered into ground floor of a complex.

The city received a rainfall of 5 cm, local Met office said. under the influence of southwest monsoon active in the state, moderate to rather heavy rains are likely to occur at most places over coastal Andhra, Telangana and Rayalaseema during next 48 hours.
