When the House met for the day, the Opposition members insisted for discussion on alleged irregularities in the implementation of NREGS. They also demanded the Speaker to constitute a Legislature Committee to look into the issue.

However, the Minister for Rural Development V Vasantha Kumar denied the Opposition charges and said that the government has taken all measures to prevent irregularities in the implementation of NREGS.

The government would table the list of beneficiaries report and works taken up under NREGS soon in the House, he said adding there is no need to set up a legislative committee on it. Dissatisfied with the Minister’s reply, the Opposition members staged a protest and the House plunged into turmoil for some time.
