The old adage that 'marriages are made in Heaven' is not truly applicable to curfew-bound areas of Hyderabad. This has come to be real now.

All scheduled marriages and Nikahs, fixed months ahead, had to be postponed in the last-minute due to the imposition of curfews following clashes in several areas of the Old City of Hyderabad.

There are more than 50 marriage halls in the curfew-affected areas where marriages had to be solemnised by both the Hindu & Muslim communities. Even if the marriage halls are situated outside the curfew affected areas most of the families of the bridegrooms and brides are from the curfew affected areas.

Since the first half of April is considered auspicious for marriages, several weddings had been planned and arrangements that are in different stages of completion are badly affected.

The second half of April as per Hindu almanac is ‘Adhika Maasam' which is not treated as a good period for marriages.

The curfew also had its impact on Class Tenth  examinations  scheduled  for Wednesday  (March 31) and Thursday  (April 1)  in 410 examination centres of  Hyderabad  which were put off.

The  Physical  Sciences examination was scheduled  for Wednesday while the Natural  Sciences examination was slated to be conducted on April 1, but both these papers have been postponed .

The  SSC Board took  this decision in view of the curfew in  various parts of the state  Capital due to clashes.  “The revised  dates will be announced later ,” said Minister for School Education D. Manikya Varaprasad Rao.

Even the exams  in Osmania University scheduled to begin on Wednesday were postponed. The exams will commence on April 7 and the revised time-table will be displayed on University website: www.osmania.ac.in
