He said that he had directed AP Transco officials to make sure that there are no power cuts between 6 pm and 6 am. He said that power cuts during nighttime hampers students’ preparations for the exams.

The Minister said that despite the drop in power generation and increase in consumption, the Discom CMDs were directed not to impose power cuts in any locality in their respective areas of operation without prior announcement of the schedule with timings.

He said, that the gap between power consumption and generation is six per cent, and added that AP Transco and distribution companies have decided to impose power cuts in all cities two hours per day and in mandal headquarters for four hours.

Power cuts in city will be administered in two spells of an hour each.

He attributed the power crisis in state to widening gap between demand and supply and to drastic fall in generation by hydro-electric stations and a steep hike in power consumption.

Mr Laxmaiah pointed out that 15 MU of power is being generated from power stations at Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar reservoirs after imposing restrictions on use of water.
