Sabita hints at fast-track courts in districts

In view of the growing atrocities on women, the Government is considering setting up fast-track courts in every district, Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy said in the Assembly here on Friday.

Referring to Naga Vaishnavi’s kidnap and murder, which sent shock waves among the people, she assured the House that the inquiry will be completed in three months.

The fast-track courts will ensure speedy disposal of the cases, she observed. In order to hold a check on the atrocities of women, the  Government is proposing to amend the laws, the Home Minister informed  the House.  ``In this connection, we are consulting the State Law Commission and will go as per their guidelines,’’ she added.

Refuting the statement made by the Opposition members that ever since  she took over as the Home Minister, the atrocities on women in the state have increased, she wanted that the Opposition withdraw the statement.

Earlier, Sabitha was vociferrously attacked by legislators from all parties including MLAs from the Congress party.

The first to start the scathing attack against her was PRP president K.Chiranjeevi. He wondered whether there was any law and order in the state. The PRP chief said the number of crimes have increased tremendously in the last couple of months and the Home Minister was sitting quiet. He cited the murder of Vaishnavi, kidnap of Arjun from Amalapuram, kidnap of girls on a daily basis from Hyderabad etc.

He reminded that even a toddler, Arjun, was rescued from the kidnappers with the help of villagers and media like TV9. He claimed that the Government did nothing to rescue the child.
