Demanding that the political parties nominate student leaders as candidates for the ensuing by-polls in the Telangana region, the Joint  Action Committee of Osmania University students have made their intentions clear.

Reacting to the statements made by Telugu Desam MLA Maynampalli Hanumanth Rao and Congress MP Lagadapati Rajagopal, the students said on Friday that such ideas would only aggravate the problems.

``By allotting tickets to the survivors of those who committed suicides for the cause of Telangana, we will only be encouraging more suicides,’’ they observed. Justifying their statement that student leaders should be given party tickets to contest, they opined ``it was the OU students who took the Telangana agitation  to new  heights.’’

``To entertain the idea of allotting tickets to the survivors of those who committed suicide will mean utter chaos.  Already, about 300 people have committed suicides and it is difficult for us to handpick a particular person and  belittle the sacrifices made by other persons,’’ they  added.

Putting forth their plea for allotting tickets to student leaders, they averred ``the parties should select one student each from Osmania Univeristy, Kakatiya University, Nizam College etc for the by-polls.’’

``We would discuss this issue with all the Telangana leaders and then we will finally announce our decision soon, the student leaders added.
