Hyderabad, Jan 20: Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy on Wednesday called for peace and advised the police personnel and the students as well to exercise restraint and advised them to eschew violence.Referring to the lathicharge and tension on Osmania University campus, the Home Minister said violence will only escalate more violence and it will not help solve any human problem. Talking to media persons in the day, she indicated that the law and order situation in the state in general and the Telangana region in particular is being reviewed by the State Government.

Earlier, City Police Commissioner-in waiting, Mr A.K Khan asserted that except for the Osmania University incidents, the situation in the Telangana districts during the Wednesday’s bandh was by and large peaceful. No untoward incident or violence was reported from anywhere else in the Telangana region, Khan said. Police had to use force under compulsion to contain violence on the OU campus, he added.

Outgoing city police commissioner Prasad Rao also echoed the remark stating that the situation in Telangana region is under control despite a few violent incidents on Osmania University campus. Ten police personnel were injured during the incidents at the OU campus. The cops would not disrupt the students’ agitations if they are `peaceful’, Rao told newsmen.
