Terming the Centre’s refusal to accord special status to AP by the Centre as a betrayal, CPI leader K Narayana demanded that Chief Minister and TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu to pull out of the NDA alliance at the Centre.

Speaking to media persons here on Thursday, Narayana said that the BJP took the TD for a ride for over two years with the promise of special status but refused to do so now.

He said that the TD chief should at least now understand that the Centre would not fulfill the SCS promise until there is a people’s movement on the issue demanding special status to the state.  He took pot shots at the BJP leader Purandeshwari’s statement that the Centre would not grant SCS and would rather extend all help to the state. The BJP leader’s statement was not in the interests of the state, CPI leader added. He said that the CPI extends full support to the proposed bandh call on Saturday to protest the Centre’s refusal to accord SCS to state.
