DGP clarifies ‘smaller state’ remarks

Hyderabad, Jan 13: Director General of Police Rr Girish Kumar on Wednesday clarified that his widely reported remarks on influence of Maoists on smaller states should not be taken as an indication of his official stand as the DGP of Andhra Pradesh but the remarks were an answer to a specific question put by the media in New Delhi. The clarification by the DGP came through a press release in which Mr Girish Kumar made it clear that the police force was apolitical in its views on any agitation and his remarks on smaller states should not be connected to the ongoing agitations for the bifurcation of the state.

The DGP’s statement read, “I affirm that the state police force would discharge its duties with due regard to the concern of people of the state, strictly in conformity with the provisions of Constitution and Rule of Law.”Earlier on Wednesday, the DGP’s remarks had come in for some criticism from politicians in the state.
