New Delhi,Dec  16: Amid the growing protests in the Coastal Andhra and Rayalseema against the move to bifurcate the state, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday assured a team of Congress MPs hailing from Andhra Pradesh that the Centre would not act in haste on the issue.The Prime Minister’s assurance came even as reports trickled in from Tirupati and Kurnool that more number of legislators are handing in over their papers. Markets were shut down, trains stopped and buses set on fire by angry agitators in Tirupati and Kurnool.The delegation,including Union Ministers Duggabati Purandareswari,MM Pallam Raju and Panabaka Lakshmi, told the Prime Minister that the Centre’s announcement to bifurcate the state last week led to a backlash.

Pallam Raju told newspersons that the team had conveyed to Dr Singh that the situation in the State was not congenial for the bifurcation. The MPs had pointed out to the PM that the overwhelming mood in the state was for unity. During the 40-minute meeting, it was pointed out that most people in other parts of Andhra Pradesh had relatives in Hyderabad and many people from other regions come to the city for studies or research.Members of the delegation said the PM had taken note of their sentiments and told them that nothing would be done in haste.Union Law and Justice Minister M Veerappa Moily was among those present at the meeting.
