Hyderabad,Dec 14: Vijayawada Member of Parliament Lagadapati Rajagopal was arrested on his arrival from New Delhi at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad early on Monday morning. Rajagopal was taken into custody as soon as he stepped out of the airport building and was making his way to the convoy made up of his supporters. The Congress MP was driven to the Pahadi Sharrif police station where a case under Section 151, Cr PC was registered against him.Mr Rajagopal is spearheading the agitation for a unified Andhra Pradesh. He was the first Congress MP to announce his resignation after the Centre declared that the process of creating a separate Telangana State would be initiated.After registering the case in the Pahadi Sharrif police station, the MP was taken straight to Chief Minister K Rosaiah’s residence.

What transpired between the CM and the MP is not clear yet.Mr Rajagopal expressed surprise at his arrest by saying, “I am surprised and confused as to why I am being arrested. I was only planning to go and meet the Chief Minister.As the news of Mr Rajagopal’s arrest spread, angry students and protestors took to the street in Coastal Andhra and Rayalseema.The MP’s supporters scuffled with the police in a bid to prevent him from being taken in custody.
