BJP senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday said that the countdown for extinction of Congress from the country has begun.

Addressing a press conference here, Venkaiah Naidu said that the Congress have lost the people's trust and it became clearly evident from the lack of response it got during the election campaign. He said that AICC President Sonia Gandhi was forced to address empty chairs during her public meeting at Guntur on Saturday. He said people have rejected the Congress party and this is probably for the first time that the results are known even before the polling. He claimed that only BJP could provide a stable government at the Centre.

Venkaiah Naidu said that BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi has effectively conveyed to the people that their vote for BJP-TDP combine would be for Swarnandhra and it would result in 'Scamandhra' if they vote for other parties.

He also condemned Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde for the appointment of a Commission of Inquiry to probe the 'snoopgate' issue allegedly involving Narendra Modi. He said that all committees appointed after the announcement of elections would be reviewed after BJP returns to power at the Centre. Describing the move as a political conspiracy, he said that such moves by the Congress party against Modi would boomerang.

"They (Congress) are shameless? They are unable to resolve the problems faced by the country and suddenly now at the last moment they have got frustrated and disappointed and are setting up commissions only with a view to defame (BJP) but it will heavily cost the Congress and it will boomerang on them," he said adding that the NDA, after coming to power, would review the decisions that were taken post announcement of the elections.

Venkaiah Naidu also sought an explanation from Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh over the violence in Assam. Speaking about the controversy Modi's interview to Doordarshan, he alleged that the Prasar Bharati has been turned into the Prachar Bharati of Congress. He alleged that the Doordarshan has black-out Narendra Modi while projecting the Congress party during election campaign. He demanded that the government should publish a White Paper giving details of the coverage time allotted to each political party and leaders.

Reacting to a query on AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh's relationship with a TV anchor, Venkaiah Naidu said, "He is busy with something else and I wish him best of luck."
