YSR – The difference between Assembly & GHMC Polls.

Congress party which swept the general elections in the State few months ago has (totally) fallen flat in today’s declared GHMC election results. With challenges over challenges between TDP and Congress top leaders, GHMC polls looked like a real battle of nerves.

Congress was expecting a dream figure of nearly 100 seats combining the score with MIM (Majlis - e - Ittehadul - Muslimeen), the Razakar Muslim party. Somehow they reached near the figure but not with Congress party’s self expected numbers. Although party cadres around Congress office started to celebrate the victory but something with in the hearts looks to be stinking and making them think twice about their party’s position in the state.

The major drawbacks which can be attributed to the moderate show of Congress in GHMC elections are all linked externally to absence of YS Rajashekhara Reddy. Even if YS Jaganmohan Reddy was drawn into this campaigning in late hours, he was not able to put up any better show as expected by Congress politicians. There was a clear indication from GHMC voters that, absence of YSR made the swing tilt towards Chandrababu Naidu as the alternative.

Absence of ample funds for campaigning, internal politics with in the party, unable to project Roshaiah as the alternative central figure, high political drama in selecting the candidates, no perfect strategy, war of words between the same party leaders, missing discipline among the top and second rung leaders…the list goes on, are the reasons for dismal show by Congress.

When investigated from the grass root level, the most charismatic leader Congress has ever seen in history YS Rajashekhara Reddy is the sole difference that bore the burden on Congress thus easing the troubles for TDP.
