Former PCC President D Srinivas on Friday said that Congress President Sonia Gandhi was not against the people of Seemandhra.

Addressing the first victory rally at Bodhan in Nizambad district, Srinivas said that Sonia Gandhi took a decision in favour of Telangana as the statehood demand was pending for the last several decades. He said that the Congress party and its leadership would take all measures for the fast development of Seemandhra. He asked the leaders to identify a suitable location for the new capital and the Centre would extend required financial assistance for its formation.

Srinivas said that the Congress party would do equal justice with all the regions in the State after the bifurcation. He claimed that the movement for Telangana was spearheaded by the Congress legislators. He said 41 Congress MLAs from the region made a representation to Sonia Gandhi and other leaders in 2004 demanding support for Telangana.

The former PCC chief said that the Telangana State would have 10 districts with Hyderabad as its capital. He also slammed the Seemandhra leaders for describing the Telangana decision as politically motivated.

Addressing the same meeting, Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao accused the Seemandhra leaders of misleading the people of their region by giving them false hopes that the State would remain united. Telangana State is now an almost reality and no one can stop its formation, he said.

Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha and other ministers and legislators from the region also addressed the meeting.
