Hyderabad, July 10 (TNN): The Communist Party of India on Friday staged protests against the rising prices of essential commodities and the alleged government failure to control the prices.

Staging a dharna at Civil supplies office on Friday, CPI state secretary Narayana alleged that the government failed in taking measures to check the rising prices and this has dealt a sever blow to the poor and the middle class.

He alleged that lack of action against hoarding and black marketing of essential commodities was giving an impression that there was an unholy nexus between the traders and government.

Lack of government control on the trading of commodities was leading to the crisis. He urged the Centre to exempt at least essential commodities from future and forward trading to bring down the prices.

Supermarket chains and traders were procuring the commodities cheaply from farmers and hoarding them to create artificial scarcity, the CPI leader alleged. Such hoarded stocks were also making their way to black market. He suggested vigilance raids on godowns of traders and major supermarkets to prevent hoarding and strengthening the public distribution system.
