The dream of Ysr Congress party leader Sharmila to undertake super-walkathon of nearly 3,000 kilometre was shattered after she was admitted in a hospital on Monday for knee surgery.

Sharmila, who launched her Maro Praja Prasthanam padayatra on October 19 from Idupulapaya of Kadapa district, was admitted in the Apollo Hospitals at Jubilee Hills where she is likely to undergo a key hole surgery on Tuesday.

According to Dr Somasekhar Reddy, Sharmila complained of severe pain in the right leg after she suffered a ligament injury on Friday. On the advise of orthopedic specialists Dr Vidyasagar, Dr CS Reddy and Dr Siva Bharat Reddy, she took rest for two days. However, on Sunday she underwent a MRI scan at the Konark Hospital in Dilshuk Nagar which revealed that her knee sustained the injury following a slip while boarding the bus during the padayatra at LB Nagar.

Finally on Monday, she was admitted in the Apollo Hospital where she would undergo a surgery. However, she would not able to resume her padayatra as her knee would be bandaged for almost three weeks.

Sharmila has so far undertook padyatra for 57 days covering 822 kilometres in 24 Assembly constituencies in Cuddapah, Anantapur, Kurnool, Mahaboobnagar districts and Ranga Reddy districts.

Incidentally, today is Sharmila's birthday. Instead of celebrating the occasion with the people, she would be forced to cut the birthday cake in hospital. However, since she would be close to the family members and close friends, she might felt a bit relieved from the knee pain.
