Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Saturday congratulated Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on being named as the Presidential candidate by UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

The Chief Minister described Pranab as the most suitable choice for the nation’s highest post since "he is the senior most politician, able administrator, man of unparalleled experience of over 50 years in public life with a rare distinction of handling all the top portfolios in the Union Cabinet". He said Pranab Mukherjee was the excellent choice and was admired by all alike.

In a special message to Pranab Mukherjee, the Chief Minister said, “My heartiest congratulations sir on your being chosen as the Presidential candidate by the UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. I join the Government and people of Andhra Pradesh in congratulating you. Your vast experience both in government and politics make you the best choice for the Rashtrapathi Bhavan”.

"Pranab Mukherjee is a statesman par excellence and handled very important portfolios like finance, defence and foreign affairs with rare acumen. He was the leader the nation, the UPA and Congress looked for whenever there was a problem," the Chief Minister said.  He described Pranab as an intellectual with an uncommon common sense, a powerful orator and a formidable negotiator. "He is considered as a walking encyclopedia as far as the governance and politics of the nation is concerned," he said.

The Chief Minster said Pranab Mukherjee is also known as a crisis resolving leader and maintained an unblemished image upholding probity in public life. He said his sharp memory, deep knowledge of every issue, quick wit and persuasive skills are widely respected even by the opposition parties.

The Chief Minister hoped that most of the political parties would support Pranab Mukherjee’s candidature as President of India.
