Senior Congress V Hanumantha Rao on Tuesday stated that the people would believe the Congress party if it goes ahead in the by-elections campaign without using former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s photo.

Talking to media persons, Hanumantha Rao said that the people would repose their faith on the Congress party if it rectifies its mistakes that took place during stint of YSR. “The party will achieve 100 per cent success if it goes ahead in the by-elections without using YSR’s photo,” he said.

He also rubbished some Congress leaders’ statements that going without YSR photo and criticizing him would prove costly for the party.

Asking how YSR Congress president Jagan Mohan Reddy earned thousands of crore illegally, he said that the Congress party should look at YSR and Jagan in a same angle. He also said that Congress did not come to power second time in the State due to YSR's padayatra. He said that YSR became Chief Minister of the State for second time due to the Congress party.  “This is the right time to party go ahead without using YSR photo in the by-elections,” he said.

However, he stated that the Congress leaders should realize whether to go ahead with by-elections campaign under the leadership of Congress president Sonia Gandhi or with former chief minister YS Rakasekhara Reddy’s photo. Recalling that the Congress party achieved success in Udupi and Chikmagalur Assembly constituencies in Karnataka due to collective efforts of Congress leaders, he appealed to all leaders in the State to sink their differences and work sincerely for winning in the by-elections.
