State Legislative Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar on Monday served a show cause notice to 16 MLAs of the Congress party who defied the party whip and voted in favour of No Confidence Motion.

The notices were served following the petition submitted by Congress party whip Kondru Murali Mohan on December 12 seeking their disqualification for violating the party whip. The MLAs have joined the YSR Congress party and voted against the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government during the No Confidence Motion on December 5.

The Speaker has asked the MLAs to give their explanations by December 29. The MLAs have been given the choice of submitting their explanation either in writing or in person to the Speaker. The MLAs who have been served notices are Konda Surekha, Kapu Ramchandra Reddy, Gurunath Reddy, B Srinivas Reddy, P Subhash Chandrabose, Balaraju, Dharmana Krishna Das, Mekapati Chandrasekhar Reddy, Srikhanth Reddy, Amarnath Reddy, M Sucharita, Srinivasulu, P Ramakrishna Reddy, Chenna Keshav Reddy, Prasada Raju and Golla Babu Rao.

Earlier in the day, Allagadda MLA Shobha Nagi Reddy met the Speaker over the violation of party whip issued by the Praja Rajyam Party on the same issue. The Speaker has asked her to submit the explanation by December 27.
