Congress Action Committee for Telangana convenor and MLC Y Yadav Reddy on Monday stated that the Telangana Congress leaders will launch a 48 hour hunger fast at the Exhibition Grounds, Nampally from July 13.

Talking to media persons after emerging from a meeting convened by Telangana leaders at the Exhibition Grounds, Mr Yadav Reddy stated that all those Telangana Congress leaders who resigned for the cause of separate statehood would take part in the hunger fast, demanding that the Centre introduce a Telangana Bill in Parliament.

The CACT convenor revealed that the hunger fast would begin on July 13 at 9 AM and end on July 15 at 9 AM.

District level leaders would observe the hunger fast in mandal kendras on July 18, Mr Yadav Reddy pointed out. He appealed to all leaders from Telangana to make the hunger fast a grand success and thus extend solidarity to separate statehood agitation.

Disclosing more details decisions taken at the meeting, Mr Yadav Reddy said that it was unanimously decided that the Legislators who had resigned would not withdraw their papers but continue their agitation for statehood.

“The 48 hour hunger fast is part of our attempts to mount pressure on the High Command,” the MLC said, adding that the Congress leaders from Telangana are willing to sacrifice any posts for the cause of the region.

He appealed to students not to commit suicides for the cause of statehood.

Mr Yadav also blamed the electronic media owned by Seemandhra region for distorting the Telangana Congress leaders’ statements. He said the leaders would lodge a complaint with Broadcasting Authority seeking penal action for airing such distorted stories.

He said that a 20-member Coordination Committee has been set up under the chairmanship of Minister Basavaraj Saraiah to coordinate the issue.

The meeting was attended by eight MPs and three Ministers; Basavaraj Saraiah, Komatireddy Venkatareddy and K Janareddy, MLAs and MPs.

Nine Ministers did not turn up for the meeting.
