Former Telugu Desam Party member and MLA Pocharam Srinivas on Tuesday insisted that Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar accept his resignation from the legislative Assembly ‘immediately’.

Mr Srinivas pointed out to media persons at Assembly Media Point that though he had tendered his resignation to Mr Manohar last Friday, the Deputy Speaker had so far not accepted it.

The leader, who was elected to the Assembly from Banswada constituency in Nizamabad district on a TDP ticket, had resigned from the House as well as the party to work for the separate Telangana statehood demand.

Mr Srinivas stated, “Despite submitting my resignation to Deputy Speaker last Friday, so far he has accepted it. It is very difficult to go before people of the region with confidence and courage without my resignation being accepted.”

The MLA added, “I have submitted my resignation from the Assembly for the cause of Telangana since I wanted to express my solidarity to those who died for the cause of a separate state. I have to fulfill the aspirations of four crore Telangana people.”

He appealed to Telangana people and students not to commit suicides for the cause of Telangana.

Mr Srinivas also condemned the Deputy Speaker for not acting against Agriculture Minister YS Vivekananda Reddy for attacking Telugu Desam Party MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakhar. He alleged that Mr Manohar was showing discrimination in imposing punishment against people of Seemandhra and Telangana regions.

Mr Srinivas asked Mr Manohar to take a stringent action against the Minister so that such unfortunate incidents are not repeated in the future.
