Plan well to ensure proper power supply: Revanth Reddy

Telugu Desam Party MLA from Telangana Revanth Reddy on Saturday demanded the state government draw up contingency plans to ensure that the people of the state are not put to inconvenience due to power shortage.

Speaking to media persons at the TDLP on the Assembly premises, Mr Revanth Reddy stated that the government has hinted that rural areas would see power cuts up to 10 hours while industries will see a power cut of two hours, until generation increases.

The TDP MLA pointed out that while the demand for power is around 5,300 MW, the power availability is being put at around 4,500 MW. He said that going by these figure, the government must draw up contingency plans so that the people of the state are not put to hardships.

He demanded that the government must tell the people of the state how it proposes to overcome the deficiency in demand and supply and take necessary measures to bring the gap under control.

Mr Revanth Reddy pointed out that the ruling party had claimed that it would ensure uninterrupted supply of power but has failed to do so, due to its mismanagement of the power sector. He reminded that the TDP government had handled the precarious power situation during its rule systematically, but the Congress government had not concentrated on the subject properly.

When asked, Mr Revanth Reddy refused to comment on the rumours that there was a rift between the members of the Telangana Telugu Desam Party Forum. He said that he was not being accompanied by the other members of the Forum and hence commenting on the rumours would not be right.

Mr Revanth Reddy denied that he was in the race for the post of Public Accounts Committee chairman. He said that there were many senior and more experience leaders in the party.
