Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday condemned the attack on Lok Satta president Jayaprakash Narayan allegedly led by Telangana Rashtra Samiti activists on the Assembly premises after the Budget Session of the House.
In a press statement, Mr Naidu described the incident as condemnable and stated that in a democracy everyone has freedom to express their views on any issue. However, the elected members should not resort to physical attacks, hurting the freedom of others. The attack on members is attack on freedom of expression, he pointed out.
Mr Naidu further said that the physical attack was against the culture of the Telugu Desam Party. He called upon all parties to make efforts to ensure that such incidents are repeated in future.
Condemning the attack on Dr Narayan, Telugu Desam Telangana Forum convenor Nagam Janardhan Reddy demanded unconditional apology.
He said the TDP does not encourage violence and asked the Speaker to ensure such incidents are not witnessed again.
He called upon Members to help the Speaker in the smooth functioning of the House.
