Only ten Congress Mlas from Telangana on Sunday turned up for a meeting to discuss the future course of action to be adopted to push the party High Command for agreeing to the introduction of a Telangana Bill in the Budget Session of Parliament.

Around 40 MLAs from Telangana were expected to attend today’s meeting.

The thin attendance glaringly brought to the fore the fact that the Congress Mlas are a divided lot with diverse opinions on the future of the state. The possible alliance with the Praja Rajyam Party, an avowedly ‘integrationist’ party, is believed to have played a major role in the MLAs being ‘disinterested’ in attending the meeting.

Briefing media persons on the outcome of the meeting later at Media Point on Assembly premises, MLA from Manakondur in Karimnagar Arepally Mohan stated that the Telangana Congress Mlas have decided to submit a memorandum to the Congress Core Committee and Congress president Sonia Gandhi on February 14 demanding introduction of Telangana Bill in the Budget Session of Parliament.

Mr Mohan said the MLAs present at the meeting have decided to meet members of the Congress Core Committee and Congress president Sonia Gandhi in Congress president and submit a memorandum.

Reacting on a section of members expressing difference over the Telangana issue, MLA Bhikshamaiah Goud said the meeting has unanimously made a resolution to urge Sonia Gandhi to take a decision on Telangana as early as possible.

If the Centre fails to introduce Telangana Bill in the Budget Session of Parliament, he said that the Telangana Congress leaders are ready to make any sacrifices for Telangana.

Mr Goud called upon all leaders to sink their differences and make efforts for forming Telangana state.

Another MLA Rajaiah said the Telangana people should not suspect the commitment of MLAs. The Congress leaders are making all efforts for forming the T state, he said.
