Be responsible, fight with govt on Krishna waters issue: Rosaiah to Oppn

Former Chief Minister K Rosaiah on Friday called on the opposition parties to join hands with the government and fight to get the rightful share of waters from the River Krishna, in light of the adverse verdict given by the Krishna Water Dispute Tribunal.

Reminding the opposition that they have a duty to act responsibly, Mr Rosaiah said that if they kept criticizing the government instead of helping it in the fight against the adverse verdict, they would be failing in their mandate.

Talking to media persons at Congress Legislature Party office, the former chief minister said the state had suffered a major injustice in the sharing of waters with the tribunal verdict.

Mr Rosaiah reminded the Opposition that if it does not act in a responsible manner and support the government, it would be also blamed for jeopardizing the interests of state.

He said the Opposition parties should not focus only on laying the blame on the government and pinpointing its weakness, but instead join hands with the government to protect the interests of state, particularly of the farmers in the Krishna Delta. The verdict would turn agriculturally well developed Krishna Delta into a desert, he stated.

The former chief minister reminded that the Tribunal had given three months time to file a review petition. He asked all parties to come forward with workable suggestions and extend cooperation to government.
