The MPs told the Congress president that the verdict will turn the Krishna Basin into a desert. They also told her that the future of farmers, not to mention the many prestigious projects that are currently being taken up in the swath of the Krishna River, is at stake. They stated that the verdict will lead to unimaginable losses and backwardness to the farmers and AP.

They said the state suffered serious injustice with the tribunal permitting Karnataka to raise the height of Almatti Dam from 519 to 524 metres.

The Congress president gave a patient hearing to the MPs and assured to look into the issue after discussing with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Water Resources Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal.

The MPs also appealed to Sonia Gandhi to according National Project status to the Polavaram Irrigation Project to be constructed on River Godavari.
