Normal life unaffected by bandh, educational institutions remain shut

Following the bandh call by the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee and supported by the Osmania University Students Joint Action Committee to protest against the lathicharge on Osmania University students on Thursday, educational institutes in many parts of Telangana remained closed on Friday.

The TPJAC and the OUSJAC had called for the bandh after police had fired teargas shells and then resorted to lathicharge on protesting students who had resorted to stone pelting in protest against the Justice Srikrishna Committee Report which was disclosed to the public on Thursday.

One RTC bus was set on fire allegedly by the students.

The lathicharge had left four students with injuries, who were released from hospital after given treatment.

The OUSJAC had initially called for a total shutdown across the Telangana region, but the TPJAC had had appealed that only educational institutes to observe the bandh. The TPJAC had also urged the government employees across the Telangana region to observe a ‘lunch hour’ protest to press for the introduction of a Bill on separate Telangana state.

Meanwhile, the city remained calm with no signs of the bandh call on business activities. Except for a slight drop in traffic, there was no indication of the bandh call having any affect.

The Sankranti vacations are due to begin from Saturday.
