The Ministry of Higher Education on Tuesday issued a GO permitting the AP Open School Society to start Intermediate (Aposs) course from the academic year 2010-11 through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode.

Accordingly all those candidates above the age of 15 years, who have passed tenth class but could not complete Intermediate can avail this facility of studying Intermediate (Aposs) course through distance mode.

Under this programme, a candidate will get an Intermediate (Aposs) pass certificate with a pass in 5 subjects (with one or two languages and minimum of two non-language subjects).

During this academic year (2010-11) languages viz., Hindi, English, Urdu and Sanskrit are offered and under non-languages, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Political Science, Economics, Business Studies, Home Science, Word Processing, Psychology, Computer Science, Sociology, Painting and Mass Communication are offered.

A candidate can opt one Vocational subject also out of 5 subjects for certification. Candidates are also permitted to study one or more subject if desired.

This opportunity of studying through 40 Personal Contact Classes (in nearby study centre) per each subject can be utilized by all sections of society especially those belonging to disadvantaged groups(SC, ST, BC, Minorities and other below poverty line groups) and weaker sections as it is offered according to their convenient timings.

A detailed notification for sale of applications, prospectus, Study centres, fee details etc. to this effect will be issued in the last week of September 2010. 

Meanwhile, the Board of Intermediate Education has introduced the 24 page stitched answer books containing 24 lines for each page for language subjects, without additional Answer Books, during IPE for language subjects, without additional Answer Books, during IPE March 2010, on experimental basis.

BIE Secretary G Balaramaiah said that the decision was taken since the system was deemed a success as the student and lecturers welcomed it. Consequently the BIE has decided to extend the same system of twenty four lined twenty four page answer books without additional books for all the optional subjects also from IPE March 2011.

In this regard, the principals are instructed to train the students with the new system in their house examinations.
